The OCC is an independent bureau of the U.S. Department of the Treasury. The OCC charters, regulates, and supervises all national banks, federal savings associations, and federal branches and agencies of foreign banks. The HelpWithMyBank.gov website is an official OCC site established to help you find answers to your questions regarding national banks and federal savings associations.
The Privacy Act of 1974 establishes certain controls over any personal information collected by the OCC and how it is used.
The OCC respects your privacy. We do not collect or store information about members of the public who call or write the agency or visit our websites, unless you identify yourself so that we can respond to an inquiry or request from you.
- We use your personal identifying information only for the purpose for which it is originally collected.
- We maintain your personal identifying information in secure computer systems and limit employee access to those with a business reason to see it.

The information you provide to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) will permit us to respond to your complaint or inquiry about the national banks or federal savings associations (thrifts) we supervise.
The collection of this information is authorized by 12 USC 1.
Your submission of information to the OCC is entirely voluntary. You are not required to submit any information or to submit a complaint. However, if you do not submit the requested information, the OCC may not be able to process your request or inquiry.
Information about your complaint or inquiry will be used within the OCC and provided to the national bank or federal savings association (thrift) that is the subject of the complaint or inquiry. Additionally, this information may be shared with
- other third parties when required or authorized by statute or when necessary in order to obtain additional information relating to the complaint or inquiry;
- other governmental, self-regulatory, or professional organizations
- having jurisdiction over the subject matter of the complaint or inquiry;
- having jurisdiction over the entity that is the subject of the complaint or inquiry; or
- whenever such information is relevant to a known or suspected violation of law or licensing standard for which another organization has jurisdiction;
- the Department of Justice, a court, an adjudicative body, a party in litigation, or a witness when relevant and necessary to a legal or administrative proceeding;
- a Congressional office when the information is relevant to an inquiry initiated on behalf of its provider;
- other governmental or tribal organizations with which an individual has communicated regarding a complaint or inquiry about an OCC-regulated entity;
- OCC contractors or agents when access to such information is necessary; and
- other third parties when required or authorized by statute.

What information is collected?
Website traffic statistics
We use website traffic information to help us make our websites more useful to visitors. We learn what users like and need; what kind of technology they are using; how often they visit; and other valuable information that helps us offer our visitors the best site possible.
When you visit our website to read or download information, we do not collect information about you, but we do collect and store information about your internet connection and the date and time of your visit. When we examine this data, it is presented in an aggregate form.
Specifically, we record
- the name of the domain from which you access the internet (for example, microsoft.com, if you are connecting from a Microsoft account, or princeton.edu, if you are connecting from Princeton University's domain).
- the IP (internet protocol) address from which you access our site. An IP address is a number automatically assigned to your computer whenever you are connected to the world wide web.
- the internet address of the website from which you linked directly to our site, if any (for example, www.fdic.gov, if you are following a link from the FDIC website, or www.google.com, if you find us using the Google search engine).
- the type of web browsing software you are using to view our site.
- your computer's operating system.
- the search terms you enter in our website search application.
- the links you click on pages on our website.
- the date and time you access our site.
- the pages you visit.
- the action you tried to perform or the item you requested from the OCC website (for example, download a document) and whether you were successful.
The OCC does not use persistent cookies or other technology to collect personally identifiable information (PII) about visitors to our website. "Persistent cookies" collect personal information that allows websites to recognize your computer in the future. Temporary, or "session," cookies are used on OCC.gov websites to support voluntary customer surveys and to help us accurately analyze, at an aggregated level, how visitors navigate through our website. These cookies are stored in memory and are only available during an active browser session. They do not collect personal information on visitors, and they are erased as soon as you close your web browser. No PII about you is maintained as a result of temporary cookies.
OCC websites use third-party tools to help us improve user experience and to track web traffic. These tools include Google Analytics and Siteimprove. These tools use persistent cookies for the collection of web metrics, and to track visitor interactions; however, traffic statistics are only reported to us anonymously and in the aggregate for OCC websites. OCC websites include links to other websites. When you click a link to an outside website, the privacy and security policies of that website apply. Non-federal websites do not necessarily operate under the same laws, regulations, and policies as federal websites.
Some parts of our website let you voluntarily provide personal information, such as your name or email address. We do not collect this information when you visit our website unless you choose to provide it to us.
